Hunza Peak rises to 6,270 meters in the world-famous Karakoram Mountain Range, positioned in the beautiful Hunza Valley of Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan . This snow-capped peak rises massively in front of the valley and is surrounded by spectacular neighbors including Lady Finger, Ultar, and Shispare . The first ascent of Hunza Peak took place in 1991 by a Swedish expedition, followed closely by a British team—including renowned alpinists Mick Fowler and Crag Jones—achieving the second ascent the same year via the southwest ridge .
Hunza Peak lies in the Batura Muztagh, a sub-range of the Karakoram . The Karakoram Mountain Range is a massive chain stretching across Pakistan and China, hosting some of the greatest mountains on Earth including K2 and Gasherbrum . Spanning 500 kilometers long and 200 kilometers wide, it connects with the Hindu Kush and Himalaya ranges at several points, creating one of the most dramatic mountain landscapes anywhere .
The peak is surrounded by mountains exceeding 5,000 meters, 6,000 meters, and even 7,000 meters, representing some of the highest summits in the world . It stands near some of the most beautiful places Asia has to offer, including the valleys of Nagar, Haramosh, and the legendary Hunza itself . The best time for summit attempts is during the Pakistan summer season between May and August .
In 2025, Czech climbers Zdeněk Hák and Radoslav Groh made a stunning first ascent of the southeast face, establishing a 2,300-meter route they called "Eid al Adha" with difficulties up to 5+UIAA, M6+, and WI5—reaching 90 degrees of steepness and delivering what Hák described as "a Patagonia-like experience" and "one of the most beautiful summits I've ever stepped on" . This modern achievement demonstrates that Hunza Peak continues to offer visionary new lines for elite alpinists .
Alpine Karakoram Adventure operates Hunza Peak expeditions during the summer climbing season. Our team provides comprehensive logistics from Islamabad through the Karakoram Highway approach, full Base Camp support throughout the climbing period, and return journey to the capital. The expedition runs approximately 30 days, combining serious high-altitude mountaineering with travel through the stunning Hunza Valley, one of the most photographed destinations in Pakistan .

Note: This itinerary represents our standard plan based on experience organizing Hunza Peak expeditions. Adventure travel in remote mountain regions requires flexibility. Weather, road conditions, and acclimatization needs may necessitate changes. The 2025 Czech team's successful new route on the southeast face required careful waiting for favorable conditions after fresh snowfall—a reminder that patience is essential in the Karakoram . Your expedition leader works to minimize inconvenience while maintaining safety as the top priority. We plan thoroughly but adapt constantly to ensure safety.
