Overview
Drifika Peak rises to 6,447 meters in the Karakoram Range of Pakistan, positioned between the Nangma Valley to the south and Kharidas Valley to the north near Kanday . This striking mountain offers two distinct faces, with the south side favored for climbing due to easier access to Base Camp and more straightforward route conditions . The peak is located near the Charakusa Glacier in the Gilgit-Baltistan region and is considered part of the Masherbrum Mountains, placing it in the company of some of the Karakoram's most legendary peaks .
The mountain was first climbed by a Japanese expedition led by Akiya Ishimura in 1978, establishing Drifika as a viable objective for mountaineers seeking experience in the Karakoram . What makes this peak particularly appealing is the combination of genuine high-altitude climbing above 6,400 meters with a relatively short approach and a comparatively straightforward route compared to more technical neighbors. The Base Camp area is remarkably beautiful, featuring grassy ground surrounded by snowy peaks creating spectacular scenery. Numerous smaller peaks stand close to Base Camp, providing excellent opportunities for acclimatization climbs and preparation for the main objective .
In May 2023, Italian climber Giovanni Zaccaria made a significant first ascent of the south face and southwest spur of Drifika, descending on skis in a single day. This remarkable one-day climb and descent was nominated as one of the most notable climbs of 2023 by members of the Piolets d'Or technical committee, demonstrating that even after decades of exploration, Drifika continues to offer new lines for visionary alpinists .

Weather, road conditions, and acclimatization needs may necessitate changes. Flights to Skardu are weather-dependent; if cancelled, road travel proceeds via the Karakoram Highway . Your expedition leader works to minimize inconvenience while maintaining safety as the top priority. We plan thoroughly but adapt constantly to ensure safety.
